Laaro Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 3, 2026. Last updated: September 3, 2026.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Laaro ("we," "us," or "our") collects when you use our WhatsApp-based conversation-practice service, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at care@laaro.app.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account and profile information. Your name, the phone number you use with WhatsApp, your preferred language, and the topics you choose to practice.
  • Conversation content. The messages you send to Laaro and the responses Laaro sends back, along with a running summary of past conversations so Laaro can remember context over time.
  • Subscription and billing information. Whether you are subscribed and your subscription status, provided to us by Google Play. We do not receive or store your card details; those are handled entirely by Google Play.
  • Usage and safety data. Technical logs needed to operate the service, including which AI model handled a given message, response times, and records generated by our automated safety and moderation checks.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate Laaro: generating conversational responses, remembering context across your conversations, and delivering messages to you over WhatsApp.
  • To keep Laaro safe: automated screening for content involving self-harm, sexual content involving minors, or other serious safety concerns, so we can respond appropriately.
  • To manage your subscription: confirming your free-trial and paid-subscription status so the right level of access is granted.
  • To improve Laaro: understanding how the service performs and where it falls short, using aggregated or de-identified data where practical.
  • To communicate with you: for example, replying to a support request sent to care@laaro.app.

3. Third Parties We Share Information With

We do not sell your personal information. We share information with the following categories of third parties, only as needed to operate Laaro:

  • WhatsApp and Meta Platforms, Inc. Every message you send to or receive from Laaro passes through WhatsApp's own infrastructure, and is subject to WhatsApp's own Privacy Policy in addition to this one.
  • AI providers. We send your conversation content to third-party AI providers (such as OpenAI, Google, or Anthropic, depending on which is active at the time) so they can generate Laaro's responses. These providers process the content to return a reply and do not use it to build their own general-purpose models under our current agreements with them.
  • Google Play. Subscription and purchase status is verified with Google through the Google Play Developer API.
  • Hosting providers. Our backend infrastructure runs on third-party cloud hosting, which stores and processes data on our behalf under our instructions.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of Laaro, our users, or others, or in connection with a genuine safety or crisis situation surfaced through our moderation systems.

4. Data Retention

We retain conversation content and account information for as long as your account is active, so Laaro can remember context and you can continue where you left off. If you delete your account, we delete the personal data associated with it from our systems within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain certain records by law (for example, financial or safety records).

5. Your Choices and Rights

  • Delete your account. You can delete your locally stored account data at any time from the app's Settings screen. This clears your name, language, and topic preferences from your device.
  • Change your language. You can change your preferred language at any time in Settings.
  • Log out. You can log out of the app at any time from Settings.
  • Access or delete server-side data. To request a copy of your data or full deletion from our servers, contact us at care@laaro.app.

6. Children's Privacy

Laaro is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Users between 13 and 17 may use Laaro only with a parent or legal guardian's involvement and consent, consistent with our Terms of Service. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. International Data Transfers

Laaro is operated from and primarily serves users in India, but some of our service providers (including AI providers and hosting infrastructure) may process data outside India. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate protections are in place.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in our service or legal requirements. If we make material changes, we will make a reasonable effort to notify you before the changes take effect, such as through a message from Laaro or an updated "last updated" date above.

10. Contact Us
